AI Art and the Question of Credit

AI art can create beautiful images in seconds, which is exciting and uncomfortable at the same time. Students who cannot draw well can suddenly express ideas visually. Artists can test concepts quickly. Clubs can make posters without spending hours.

But the question of credit is complicated. If an AI system learned from thousands of artists, should the final image belong only to the person who typed the prompt? What happens when a living artist’s style is copied without permission?

For student creators, this matters because art is not only the final picture. It is practice, failure, hand movement, decision-making, and personal voice. AI can support creativity, but it can also tempt people to skip learning.

Schools should make clear rules about AI use in art classes and publications. Students should disclose when they use AI and respect artists’ work.

A tool can help make art, but it should not erase the people whose creativity made the tool possible.
